Privacy Statement

Christmas on River and this Website is developed and operated by Hinnerk Weiler, based in Switzerland. We follow a strict privacy by design approach: we only collect the minimum information necessary to provide the service. We do not use analytics, tracking, or profiling tools. - We want you to enjoy the game as much as we wanted to make it. - With no regrets!

• No analytics, advertising SDKs, or behavior tracking.
• No personal usage profiling within the app.
• No third-party data sharing.
• Only data that Apple App Store (see here for details) and Google Play Store (see here for details) technically require may be processed by those stores according to their own policies. Also this App is made with Unity and potentially their runtime could affect your privacy as well (see Details here).

Participation in team competitions is entirely optional.

• If you create a team on this website (or in the app at a later version), we ask for an email address solely to resend your team key if you lose it.
• This email address is not linked to your in-game identity and is used for that single purpose only.
• We do not verify who you are, and we do not limit or track how many teams you create.
• Only the team creator decides whom to share the team key with. We do not track this sharing.
• Players joining a team enter the team key locally on their device; there is no login.

To display competition results, we store the following information:

• A freely chosen player name (nickname).
• Scores and timestamps.
• A unique Device ID (to allow you to continue if you reinstall the app on the same device).

If you change to a different phone or device, previously stored data cannot be restored, because we do not associate data with accounts or identities.

We process data only to provide the app’s core functionality (e.g., leaderboards, team key recovery). Under Swiss data protection law (and, where applicable, Article 6(1)(b) and 6(1)(f) GDPR), this processing is necessary to perform the service you use and to protect our legitimate interest in operating a secure, functioning game—while minimizing data to what’s strictly required.

• All data is processed under Swiss data protection law.
• We apply appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect data against unauthorized access, alteration, or misuse.
• We do not sell data or share it with third parties for marketing or analytics.

We retain the minimal data described above only as long as necessary to operate the features (e.g., leaderboards) or as required by applicable law. Team-creator email addresses are kept solely for team key recovery and may be deleted upon request (see “Your Rights”).

We maintain safeguards to not intentinally transfer data outside the European Economic Area (EEA) or Switzerland. All hosting occures in Switzerland at at Hetzner Datacenters (their data protection rules: www.hetzner.com/legal/privacy-policy/ ). They act as processors under contractual safeguards consistent with Swiss data protection requirements through GDPR rule sets).

Under Swiss data protection law, you may have the right to request information about data we store about you and to request correction or deletion, where applicable. Because we store only minimal, non-identifying data, such requests are typically straightforward. Also you have to right to request deletion and correction in case we hold false information on file. However, we will not raise your score unless you can prove that you achieved a higher score.

To exercise your rights, contact us using the details below. We may need limited additional information to verify and fulfill your request (for example, the Device ID you see in the app).

Our app is not directed to children under the age required by local law to consent to data processing without guardian approval. Even though ist is not intended for children we consider it suitable for all ages. Parental guidance is recommended when children use the app. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child provided us personal data, please contact us with a proof of your parental status.

We may update this Privacy Statement to reflect changes to the app or legal requirements. We will indicate the “Effective date” above and, where appropriate, communicate material changes within the app or on our website.
